Frequently asked questions

Questions about senior nutrition programs in Reno, answered.

The things senior centers, caregivers and care homes ask us most. Don’t see yours? Just ask.

Where does Peas & Pappas offer programs?

Peas & Pappas Consulting is based in Reno, Nevada. Jocelyn teaches and consults in person across Reno, Sparks and the surrounding Reno–Tahoe area. Virtual lectures, workshops, program design and care home consulting are available for organizations outside the area.

Who are the programs for?

Older adults and the people who care for them, plus the organizations that serve them: senior centers, community centers, caregiver networks, and assisted living and residential care homes.

Who leads the programs?

Jocelyn Protopappas, founder of Peas & Pappas Consulting. She is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Read more about Jocelyn.

Can caregivers attend?

Yes. Caregivers are welcome in Fresh Perspectives Workshops and Kitchen-in-a-Box cooking demonstrations, and The Caregiver Kitchen is designed just for them.

Is a workshop one session or a series?

Your choice. Fresh Perspectives Workshops are offered as a single session or as a four-week series.

What lecture topics are available?

Longevity Lecture Series topics include nutrition for brain health, diabetes prevention, strategies for aging well, and “Fiber: The Unsung Hero of Healthy Aging.” Lectures suit larger groups, community centers and caregiver networks. See the lecture series.

Can a dietitian review our care home’s resident nutrition plans?

Yes. Peas & Pappas consults with assisted living, memory care and residential care homes, including small six-bed homes. Reviews can happen in person in the Reno–Sparks area or remotely, on a schedule agreed with you. See care home consulting.

Do you offer diabetes education?

Yes. As a CDCES, Jocelyn teaches diabetes management in Fresh Perspectives Workshops and diabetes prevention in the Longevity Lecture Series. These group programs complement, and don’t replace, participants’ own health care teams. See diabetes education.

Are programs available virtually?

Lectures, workshops, program design and care home consulting can be delivered virtually. Ask about virtual options for the hands-on cooking programs.
